OUR 12TH STUDENT!

Food For A Future has been up and running for just over a year and in this time we have been busy liaising with our, Angel on the ground, Sopheak, to ensure the children are attending school and the families are receiving their rice parcels.

We have had excellent feedback from Sopheak including report cards from the school which shows all the children are all making excellent progress.

As well as ensuring existing students are progressing well with their education, we have also been working hard raising funds to allow us to reach more families in need of support.

As of Jan 2020, we are pleased to say that we have a total of 12 children and their families who are being supported by the Food For A Future program. These 12 students range from 5 to 16 years of age and have taken to their new school lives with joy and enthusiasm.

As well as providing the family with monthly rice packages, we have extended the offering to provide toiletries and hygiene products to ensure they are of healthy body, as well as a healthy mind.

However, it doesn’t stop there…Thanks to all the generous donations, we are hoping to put a further 3 children in to the education system by Easter 2020, taking the total to 15.

OUR FIRST STUDENT – Heng Meng Hong

At 12 years old, Meng Hong is the eldest of three siblings living with his family in Siem Reap.  His parents are unemployed and the family live in dire poverty, trying desperately to survive by collecting cans and bottles to sell for a few cents. The small amount of money the family earn goes straight towards buying rice to feed the family.  Meng Hong spends many hours a day scouring the land for items to sell.

Gaining an education is a dream that Meng Hong could not have imagined as his family have no ability or funding to send Meng Hong to school.

In June 2018, Food for a Future agreed to sponsor Meng Hong by providing rice to feed the family in return for releasing Meng Hong every day to attend school. As a result of the program, Meng Hong was able to proudly wear his first school uniform and start his first day in school at Grade 1.
